Info:  While volunteers intentions are nearly always good, this does not mean that all volunteer prorgammes or indeed volunteers, are good. Indeed there are some programmes, and some volunteers out there that can be said to do more harm than good. This site offers some ideas to help you work out how you can be a valuable international volunteer and how to choose a valuable volunteering placement. For more information visit 'the guide' section of the site.

Expanish Volunteer

Info:  Allows you to travel to South America and volunteer in different ways. If you're thinking of giving back, this is a great way to do so and get to visit a foreign country in the mean time. Support a cause you believe in, help those who need it, make a difference!

Volunteering can be one of the most generous, selfless, and rewarding acts that one can experience and every volunteer out there is actively contributing to change around the globe. Everyday people volunteer their knowledge, skills, strengths, and abilities to different organizations and individuals, asking for nothing in return except the opportunity to do what they can for a cause they believe in.

Our Expanish organization in Buenos Aires is about education, travel, creating a partnership between people, cultures, and countries. At Expanish we believe in the power of education, the changes it can make, and the impact it can have; we strive to provide our volunteers with a myriad of opportunities in different volunteer positions, safe and secure volunteer environments, and the chance to educate, assistant, and improve the lives of others.

Info:  Gap years abroad are becoming more popular as universities look for people that have travelled, according to an expert.

Marcus Watts, founder of Greenforce, said that skills and experiences which can be picked up from travelling abroad were becoming sought after by universities.

He added: "Twenty years ago, doing something in a local area would have been enough but now with world travel being much easier, universities are looking for people who have more depth of experience, along with more knowledge and awareness of world issues."

Mr Watts also commented that parents are pushing gappers to consider the safety risks that they might face meaning they are less likely to run into problems.

He said that parental involvement in the planning of a gap year can be a positive thing as they make sure that their sons or daughters are taking out travel insurance and researching the areas that they are visiting.
