Monkton Wyld

Info:  Set amid rolling hills and within walking distance of the stunning Jurassic coast, Monkton Wyld Court has hosted events for adults, children and families for 70 years. Visitors return time and time again - often just to relax as B&B guests. As well as workshops and family weeks, we teach skills for sustainable living: beekeeping, permaculture, eco-building, green technologies, sustainable land use and environmental crafts.

Permaculture

Info:  The Association is an educational charity run by its members and helps people use permaculture in their everyday lives to improve their quality of life and the environment around them. It supports individuals, projects and groups working with permaculture in Britain by:

- Running a national office providing information and support. We are open 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, Monday to Thursday.
- Running a membership scheme to inform, educate, support and network between permaculture activists and groups in Britain, as well as supporting the general public.
- Supporting the development of permaculture education and training.
- Organising national and local events.
- Networking nationally and internationally.
- Providing information to its members, the media and the public
- Seeking funding to research and develop permaculture projects.
- Working to make permaculture accessible to everyone in Britain.

We fund our work through subscriptions and donations from members and this money is used to its maximum benefit spreading the uptake of and reinforcing existing permaculture projects and ideas.

The Environment Centre Swansea

Info:  The Environment Centre is here to help environmental groups in the S. Wales area and to provide information regarding sustainability issues. We have a small green shop, fair trade coffee bar, meeting and exhibition spaces, information, office facilities, photocopying/laminating, internet access, demonstrations of renewable technologies and more.

The Environment Centre was set up by the Swansea Environmental Forum: an association of statutory and voluntary organisations active in environmental work in South West Wales. Through the set up of an environment centre, they sought to establish a base and focus for environmental information, education and activity in the area. In 1989, Swansea City Council offered the Old Telephone Exchange in Pier Street for conversion into an environment centre, if the Forum was able to attract the necessary support and funding. Support was offered by dozens of organisations from the voluntary, statutory and business sectors.

In February 1994, the project was adopted to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Investiture of the Prince of Wales. HRH visited the site in May 1994 and a number of national companies and charitable trusts contributed substantial sums towards the renovation costs. The Centre was officially opened in April 1995 by the Prince of Wales on a return visit to the project. In 1999 an Eco-Annexe was built to house the visitor centre.

Since then the Environment Centre has grown and evolved to become a focus for education and activity in South West Wales.

The Sustainability Centre

Info:  The Sustainability Centre is situated on top of the South Downs, three miles south of the picturesque village of East Meon. The Centre is on the South Downs Way and surrounded by a network of footpaths and lanes.

Info:  The Scottish Waste Awareness Group (SWAG) was set up in 2000. SWAG manages the national campaign, Waste Aware Scotland. Waste Aware Scotland* is the campaign that promotes your local household recycling facilities. For example, Waste Aware campaigns are used to promote your recycling bins at home and your local Recycling Centres and Points.

Waste Aware Schools is a more recent online project that promotes recycling in schools. Pupils can find out how to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle at school. They can also download Waste Aware posters to promote recycling in your school. The posters are in a suitable style for pupils, following several focus groups and a pilot. The style also reflects the Waste Aware Scotland campaign which pupils will be familiar with at home.

School staff, including teachers, teaching assistants, janitors, administrative staff and others, can find out how to encourage Reduce, Reuse Recycle whithin school, how to set up recycling facilities, how schools can save money by being waste aware, and much more.
