HIW Ryalls Funeral Directors

Info:  HIW Ryalls Funeral Directors is an independent family-run undertaking service without any associations with co-operatives, chain concerns or international conglomerates.

We have no hidden agendas and do not construct sales techniques, nor offer unnecessary goods or services for the maximisation of profits. We aim to offer the public a fair and honest appraisal of funeral requirements and what is or is not possible.

We always listen to what people would like, no matter how unconventional. We never impose upon them what they must have and our charges are always modest.

Whilst providing an honest and traditional undertaking service, we are nevertheless a company for modern times and our woodland burial and Coffin Cover cremation systems reflect the thought, care and importance we place in environmental protection.

Lakeland Foresters Ltd

Info:  In our major cities, cemeteries are now much vandalised, ill maintained resting places. Sadly interment in these areas is no longer desirable and most bereaved people turn to cremation as a possible way forward. The cremation service can be a fine occasion but we know, because we have been bereaved, that a real emptiness can set in afterwards. We can plant a tree for you and your family and friends to visit, an oak perhaps in our beautiful new forest in the Lake District National Park close to Windermere England’s largest lake.

This will give you much pleasure and is an effective way of addressing the bereavement process.

Please consider the final resting place for the ashes. We know that this decision is important to you and few solutions present themselves. You will even receive advice from the authorities about where you may or may not scatter them.

We will keep this tree for all time. A plaque will be placed by the tree bearing your personal message. A certificate will be sent to you which can be handed to future generations. Information will be included about how to access the forest. You will be free at any time to visit – 365 days a year. You will certainly visit it in your thoughts every day. No one has really passed away while we are still thinking of them.

Peace Funerals

Info:  Peace Funerals was founded in 1996 by John and Mary Mallatratt. Neither of them had previously worked in funeral directing, Mary having previously pursued successful careers in nursing and social care, and John in education. But from the experience of arranging the funerals of people close to them, they felt that there was scope for making funerals much more personal and appropriate, and the process for families much better.

They began providing funeral directing services from their home in central Lancashire, but soon acquired premises in south-east Sheffield which is the main base for Peace Funerals today. They also acquired some land at Ulley, in the countryside to the south of Rotherham, and this has been turned into the South Yorkshire Woodland Burial Ground.

Recognition of the distinctiveness of Peace Funerals’ work was achieved quite rapidly. Within its first five years the company had received a number awards from the Natural Death Centre including a national award for extending choice and support to families, as well as Regional Best Funeral Directors and Regional Best Woodland Burial Ground (for the Golden Valley site, which is managed by Peace Funerals). Since 2004, Peace Funerals have held the title of ‘Best Funeral Directors in the UK’ continuously.

Peace Funerals now has a small, extremely dedicated, caring, and professional team of staff motivated to improve the funeral experiences of families. They provide all the services that you would expect from a funeral director as well as an extensive range of additional options. But most importantly, the ethos of aiming to enable families to feel in control of the funeral arrangements of a loved one and to create something that is personal and appropriate remains paramount.
