Sustainability Practitioners |
|
|
Info:
ASP exists because there are increasing numbers of
people who feel concerned about the mismatch between
what we know about the world, and the way that we live
in it. The explosion of networks, books, events, jargon
and information about how things could or should change
is bewildering.
ASP is a response to the apparent need for a connective
system dedicated to the support of people who are
otherwise independent. It aims to demonstrate the
potential for living more in sympathy with our
environment across cultural boundaries by acting out an
alternative way of working.
ASP aims to create opportunities for people to
co-operate, and so benefit by:
- Combining with others to accelerate change
- Co-operating to win work
- Co-operating to win funding for research/work
- Providing a mutual Quality Assurance of work
- Offering peer to peer support and personal development
- Co-ordinating Information exchange and learning
ASP's Vision
Uniting people around world views that honour and value
our place in nature.
Our Purpose
ASP promotes learning that transforms behaviour from
unsustainable to sustainable practices.
We create Learning Events that promote sharing,
contribution and learning in all aspects of
sustainability between corporations, academia,
government agencies and individuals.
Our Mission
ASP brings about these transformations in as many
economically active people as possible through its
association and membership network.
Our Organisation
ASP is designed to work like the natural systems around
us. It is shaped by its membership and is based on
strong social contracts between associates and members
involving a commitment of time to each other and a
disciplined approach to learning and review. |

Bodhi
Eco-Project |
|
|
Info: Bodhi Eco-Project, a charity and company
limited by guarantee, presents a positive and creative
response to the ecological and social challenges we face
today. It is a dynamic hub of activities and resources
that empower us to live sustainably and harmoniously
with each other and with this precious, living planet.
One of our main projects, in partnership with SCI
(Sustainable Communities Initiative), is the design and
building of an ecovillage, incorporating low impact,
affordable housing; eco-friendly buildings; renewable
energy technology and land stewardship practices.
Our wide-ranging educational programme addresses the
need for us all to transition from an oil-dependent
society to a more resilient culture. We want to show
that the necessary changes are viable, life enriching
and available to us now. To this end Bodhi is offering
an educational programme for sustainable living based on
permaculture, non-violent communication (NVC), deep
ecology, mindfulness and the creative arts. This
cultivation of human creativity will provide enterprise
and employment within the ecovillage and throughout
Scotland, reflecting peoples' wide ranging skills in
areas of the arts, people orientated work, permaculture
and eco-technology.
Seeing an urgent need for awakening to our involvement
in the environmental crisis we take inspiration from
Buddhism and the concept of ‘Bodhi’, an awareness of our
interconnectedness with the living universe. Our
principles of non-violence and mindful living apply as
much in how we relate to ourselves and to each other, as
they do to our relationship with the planet. We consider
a social fabric based on compassion and skilful
communication to be as important as sound
infrastructure. |

Community |
|
|
Info: We are a collective of people working
towards sustainability who wish to share their aim with
others.
We take care of the land, recycle and conserve
resources, garden and farm organically and are off the
grid for electricity and water. We are 8 big people and
4 little ones who choose to live here: working, eating,
meeting and laughing together. Being a community is a
large part of what we do. To sum up the rest; we are
striving towards a life in which our footprints are as
light as they can be.
In the course of our communal and personal lives we
weigh up the pros and cons of our decisions against
these 3 principles:
SUSTAINABILITY - to live a lifestyle that leaves the
environment - both local and global - better, or at
least no worse, at the end of our lives.
PEOPLE - to live such that the benefits of collective
living outweigh the difficulties; so that working
together is easier and more enjoyable than working
separately; so that we will all flourish and feel at
home.
EDUCATION - to share and exchange skills and experience
to help both others and ourselves move towards a more
sustainable lifestyle.
Whatever decision we come to in the end, we have arrived
there conscious of the ethical implications of that
choice and that action. |

Info: Our vision: To provide fresh, organic,
seasonal, locally grown fruit and vegetables and to
involve local people in the process of producing the

scheme is based on Leasowe Farm, a family run farm
adjacent to the Grand Union Canal, just outside Radford
Semele. We started full scale vegetable production from
Spring 2007, and are now producing weekly shares of
seasonal veg for over 90 local households.
If you like fresh food and fresh air, would like to feel
more connected to both the community and the countryside
