Rachel Stacey, owner of Born in Water who lives near Bath has given birth in water. She experienced for herself how fantastic and fulfilling it can be to bring your baby into the world gently and fully conscious without the need for drugs or unnecessary medical intervention.

Mara Rose was born 1st September 2005, near Bath to Rachel and Dean at home in a birthing pool. This experience was an amazing one for them all. Mara came into the world from her space into water in a relaxed, cosy environment. Her Daddy took her slowly out of the water and placed her onto her mummy. It was truly a wonderful experience which they want to give everyone the opportunity to have. It was so normal to them all to be in the environment they had chosen, their home.

creative charlie - art & craft for kids

Info:  All of our art and craft projects have been designed by Kerri Sellens, an artist with over 10 years experience of running art workshops for children in schools, galleries and museums. Each project contains everything you need to complete a variety of fun and stimulating artistic activities with your child. Easy to follow instruction sheets, along with all of the necessary art equipment, are included. All project content has been carefully sourced to provide child-friendly and age-appropriate materials.

We think kids should be able to use recyclable, renewable, ethical products from an early age. As such, Creative Charlie is developing products with our environment in mind. All of the paper and card used throughout is recycled and, where possible, contents and packaging are reusable rather than disposable. By using these materials, Creative Charlie provides an exciting way to introduce environmental issues to young children.

Designed for 3 to 6 year olds, the art and craft projects are an opportunity for adult and child to engage together in creative and green play.

Topics you will find on the 'Eco Friendly Kids' website include: recycling at home and at school; litter; pollution; biodiversity; climate change; saving energy; renewable energy sources and much more. There are also downloadable activity sheets and puzzles suitable for ages 3 and upwards -- all with an environmental theme. In addition, there is useful information for parents on all kinds of aspects relating to bringing up children in harmony with the natural environment: the pros and cons of breastfeeding; how to make your own baby food; a warning on artificial food additives associated with hyperactive behaviour in children and much more.

'Eco Friendly Kids' is a website you and your kids will want to come back to time after time because it contains so much information on such a wide variety of topics, all presented in a way designed to stimulate youngsters' imagination, encouraging them to take an interest in their environment and what they personally can do to protect it. Our concern was that there was no single UK resource for interesting features and practical advice on this subject. Our features and articles are written by experts - who have experience, or a particular interest in this area.

Info:  Plush Pants is very much an Eco-business, and by this I mean we're so much more than a business selling eco-friendly products - our concern for the environment drives what we do and how we go about it. We are a member of Ethical Junction - an organisation that actively screens new applicants before accepting them for membership and requires that everyone meets their stringent ethical guidelines. Christine personally is also a member of Friends of the Earth and the Women's Environmental Network (WEN).

One of our top priorities is sourcing good quality local products, made right here in the UK. We're quite conscious of the "nappy miles" involved and where we do take products from overseas, we try to minimise the environmental impact of them. It's not always possible to get the quality our customers deserve without going to an overseas brand, in which case we try to minimise air freight by using the UK distributor if there is one (they will receive the goods in a smaller number of large shipments, rather than lots of packets sent scattergun style all over the place), and in the case of Wemoon Menstrual Pads, we now act as UK distributor to help keep down the amount of shipments being sent to the UK - we place a few large orders throughout the year rather than frequent little orders, which should help keep the environmental impact to a minimum.
