to improve our green credentials. This season 88% of
Seasalt clothing is made from organic cotton, of which
61% is certified to Soil Association Standards – the
highest organic standards in the industry. Seasalt is
now the largest producer of Soil Association certified
organic clothing in the UK and we continue to examine
everything we do to make sure we’re doing the best we
can for the environment. We’re not perfect but we follow
our environmental policy to help improve things further.
Seasalt is committed to
being a socially responsible business. We recognise that
our activities have a direct impact upon the well being
of our employees, customers, suppliers and wider
community in the places we run our shops. We use local
suppliers whenever we can, and work with our local

Sophie Gorton -
Organic |
|
|
Info: Sophie Gorton studied Fine Art at
Chelsea before setting up her own fashion label in 1989.
Her collection was exhibited regularly at London Fashion
Week and stocked by many retailers, including Liberty's,
Harrods and Selfridges. In 2003 Sophie returned to
college and completed a Masters in textiles at Central
Saint Martins.
Sophie is now concentrating on sustainable issues within
the fashion and textile industry and has brought out a
small organic cotton collection of women's tops. She is
also currently working with waste and recycled materials
combining techniques such as laser, emboss, print and
shibori. Her new works have been included in several
exhibitions and publications. As well as teaching at
Central Saint Martins, she is also a steering group
member of the FEI, a subsidiary of Labour Behind the
Label. |

SP:UK |
|
|
Info: Is an independent company. We have no
bigshot investors. We started life as the Spunky Sound
System in the 1990s, when we were more focused on
putting on the best parties and having a good time (as
anybody who comes to visit our marquee at Glastonbury
Festival would tell you). Then in 1998, after art
college, we turned our hand to providing the finest
design based T shirts. For the last 10 years.
All new Mens' T-shirts are now organic and very limited
edition, and soon all the hoods will be organic cotton
too. We are committed to continually developing the
ethical policies at Spunky and hope soon to be fair
trade certified. We have increased our prices by 50p
this season, as our costs have gone up massively to
bring you the best quality organic cotton. Our T-shirts
prints are also very limited print editions (sometimes
as little as 75 per design). While other labels claim to
offer limited edition, they usually mean 1,000 to 10,000
prints. So we hope you will feel the extra cost of a
Spunky T-shirt is worth it to get something organic and
unique. |

surfers against
sewage |
|
|
Info: Is a UK-based non profit-making
organisation campaigning for clean, safe recreational
waters, free from sewage effluents, toxic chemicals,
marine litter and nuclear waste.
We were founded in 1990
by a group of surfers, who were literally 'sick of
getting sick' through repeated ear, nose, throat and
gastric infections after going in the sea. Forming a
local group, we set about taking grassroots action to
stop the sewage pollution at our local surf breaks in
Cornwall. |
