Ecoture

Homepage   Deep Links:  EcoShop:   Bags   Home   Gifts   Fairtrade Jewellery   Info:   About   Contact

Info:  Fashionable, ethical, eco-friendly products -- bags, homeware, gifts, fairtrade jewellery and more!  Ecoture is a home based business run by a myself and my partner. We are both very passionate about the environment. We strive to raise awareness and reduce the ongoing negative impact on the environment and unfair trading through our products. We are also both vegan, so every item featured in the EcoShop is too!

Our supplier trades in an ethical way with goods normally sourced from Mexico, Canada, Ecuador, Chile, Vietnam, Thailand, Bali, Morocco, Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Senegal and Ghana. They have a high element of trust and friendship between producer and importer. They encourage their producers (family based businesses and small groups of artisans) to improve their own situation by offering higher prices for improvements in quality and in general making their product more appealing to developed markets. They are big supporters of traditionally made handicrafts, and not supporters of factories. Our supplier is very conscious of environmental matters, as are we -- only using natural sustainable products and re-using all clean packaging. They buy reused cartons from Reboxit and avoid airfreight wherever possible.

Equa

We are unique in London, proudly offering ethical style on the high street. All the collections found at our boutique and online are beautiful, stylish, desirable and ethical. Being ethical can mean different things to different people. As an ethical fashion boutique however, we have a responsibility to ensure that all of our products have been produced under conditions and from materials that meet recognised ethical standards, and facilitate improvements in quality of life throughout the supply chain.

We buy from designers that have open, transparent supply chains, who care about who and where their collections are made and ensure that there has been no exploitation during their production. These are the principles of fair trade and this is what we require our labels to adhere to.

We are also committed to improving sustainability in the fashion industry. At Equa you will find organic cotton collections, clothing made from other sustainable fabrics such as bamboo and soya, shoes that have been made using reconstituted leather dyed using environmentally friendly dyes and also some wonderful vegan accessories.

Freeset Bags

Info:  With so many “ethical” claims being made by businesses today, it is difficult to know where you stand. Despite grand statements it is easy to lose the reality behind the claims and to know how our purchasing choices impact others lives. At Freeset, we seek to differ. We believe it's essential that trade is fair.

Freeset is not run as a “normal” profit sharing business, where shareholders are the ones to benefit from the work of the women who manufacture the bags. Instead, Freeset runs as a social enterprise where profits are retained within the business and used to enable more women to be employed and to see their lives changed.

Freeset was established in 2001 to provide high quality jute bags, whilst also providing intervention and employment to women who had been trafficked into prostitution in Kolkata, India. We now employ over 100 women who manufacture our export quality bags.

As we manufacture all the bags ourselves, we have complete control over the manufacturing process and continually seek to source the highest quality materials. At Freeset we seek the highest standards for all the employees and provide opportunities for employment to vulnerable women, who would be excluded from other employment and left to a life of prostitution and exploitation.
