Info:  Is based in the Otter valley in East Devon. They are a “not for profit” community enterprise. Their aims are primarily to contribute at the local level to tackling the growing domestic waste problem - and in particular, the organic fraction.

Info:  Was set up to prevent as much wood ‘waste’ from being disposed of at Newport’s tip by businesses, institutions and organisations as possible. They save wood by collecting waste wood from local businesses, and re-use as much of it as possible, by selling it as seen at their facility or by turning it into exclusive handmade pieces for home and garden. They also sell some of the less-than-perfect timber for use as firewood - at least then it’s not filling up the landfill site. Any timber that they can’t re-use or recycle will be minimised and disposed of in the most environmentally-friendly manner possible.

UK Wood Recycling

Info:  Operates a wood recycling facility based next to the pioneering Wilton 10 Biomass Power Station - the UK’s first purpose-built wood-burning power station. Wiltshire Wood Recycling

Info:  Is a ‘not for profit' Community Interest Company, formed in early 2006 to offer environmental and social benefits to the community of Wiltshire. Saving wood waste from landfill and offering volunteering opportunities to members of the community. Wiltshire Wood Recycling is based in Castle Combe and is ideally placed to serve the towns of, Bradford on Avon, Calne , Chippenham, Corsham, Devizes, Melksham and Swindon. Their gas powered truck reduces the environmental impacts of any collections or deliveries.

Support in cash and kind was secured from local councils, private industry and grants to get the scheme running, with the ultimate aim of being self-financing. Wood destined for landfill is collected, sorted and sold. Work opportunities are offered on a paid and voluntary basis to people who find it hard to enter/re-enter the job market.
