Info:  Is Derby based corporation which utilizes their European patented technologies to manufacture and market a plywood style sheet material produced from polypropylene based carpet waste. Carpet-Burns is a material design, research and development company at the forefront of sustainability and sole suppliers of HTC (Heat Treated Carpet), a new and 100% recycled and environmentally friendly material.

HTC is a plywood style rigid board made from carpet off cuts complete with a carpet pattern, Drill it, saw it or even buy it specially molded, HTC is waterproof, durable, hard wearing, low maintenance, non-porous with a very high resistance to staining. HTC is suitable for interior and exterior applications.


Centre for Sustainable Consumption

Info:  Was established in 1996 to respond to the need for greater understanding of issues relating to the environmental impact of consumption. Their research focuses on consumer behaviour and the environmental impact of household goods. The Centre has an international reputation for research relating to the life span of household goods and hosts the EPSRC Research Network on Product Life Spans.

Info:  Are probably the only specialist shoe recycler in the United Kingdom. They have around 3000 shoe recycling sites throughout the UK. They take all footwear, in any condition, and because they are specialist shoe recyclers, their stands and banks collect an unusually high number of shoes from the communities they serve. This is because people know that they will make use of even their tattiest shoes.


FixYa

Info:  Provides free tech support and technical help for gadgets, electronic equipment and consumer products. There's no need to throw away old gadgets, you can fix them.

In 2005, too many product manufacturers were neglecting post-purchase customer support. While there were thousands of shopping sites and search engines, customers looking to repair, modify and beautify their belongings were left at a loss. This was a particularly egregious offence as so many brand name retailers were releasing new technologies unseen by the average consumer.

Frustrated by the lack of practical post-purchase information, entrepreneur Yaniv Bensadon set out to build a community resource capable of providing relevant and up-to-date troubleshooting data. Bensadon and his small team began aggregating practical product tips and providing then in one user-friendly site. This site became the home of the FixYa community.

furniture re-use network

Info:  Four million children in the UK live in households that cannot afford to replace worn out or broken furniture and three million children live in households that cannot afford to replace broken electrical items. Source DWP March 2007

The FRN is the national body which supports, assists and develops charitable re-use organisations across the UK . They do this to reduce poverty by helping households in need access furniture, white goods and other household items at affordable prices. In addition, they support re-use organisations in providing training and work placement opportunities for people who are socially excluded.


GERCO

Info:  Were one of the first licensed sites for refrigeration disposal in the country. Headed by refrigeration engineers with over 20 years experience, they have built up extremely successful working relationships with not only the businesses they deal with, but also with local Environmental Agencies. Their system of collection and disposal has proved to be both efficient and cost effective, offering a comprehensive disposal service to many retail companies and councils across the UK. These businesses are all safe in the knowledge that they continue to deal with refrigeration disposal in the most environmentally friendly method.

Faced with the consequences of the Euro directive on the disposal of refrigeration units, councils throughout the UK are experiencing massive problems with the storage and disposal of these units. GERCO can deal with this problem. Other services: they are preparing for the intake of other electrical items as described in the 'WEEE Directive' such as televisions, videos etc. They will also offer a secure cleaning process for computers prior to disposal.
