| Our philosophy is a pragmatic one regarding the use of "ethical". The directory lists websites that we consider in some way are of a positive value to humans, the
environment, the planet.............. It is about 'practical consequences'. The key words are 'green', 'eco friendly', 'local', 'sustainable', 'organic', 'fair trade', 'environmentally friendly' and 'recycling'. One persons ethical consideration can be another persons unethical consideration. Whether meat is organic or not, will not fall within an ethical
commitment of many vegans. There is no way around such conflicts. So, we cannot meet everyones criteria of "ethical". A similar thought can be applied to whether a business, organisation
or website is ethical. The rule of thumb is subjective. Some of us may be satisfied that a company commits a percentage of takings or profit to a charity or cause. Some of us may expect a tangible
commitment to recycling and environmental sustainability. Some of us may simply welcome that a business makes available Fair Trade or Organic products. Our guiding principle is that we all have the freedom to
decide for ourselves.
However, we are not a free for all. We expect some tangible evidence (visible on site) that a commitment is made, or that services and products are of positive value. If anyone
suspects a listing on this directory fails to meet all basic ideas of what constitutes ethical, eco-friendly, green, sustainable, organic, Fair Trade, then let us know and we will consider removing such an entry.
Otherwise we take people at face value. We are simply attempting to list as many
positive sources as possible to provide the widest choice with respect to products, services, causes and information. Anyone wishing to submit their site for consideration can do so here. |
