Acorn Dairy |
|
|
Info: We aim to supply the local community
with local produce of the highest standard, employing
local people.
Our family has been
farming at Archdeacon Newton since 1928, through four
generations. In common with many consumers, we have
become increasingly concerned about the quality of the
food we and our children eat, and its traceability. As a
consequence, in 1998 we began conversion of Garthorne at
Archdeacon Newton and Hallwith Farm near Leyburn in
Wensleydale to organic status.
The Tweddle family began to deliver milk in the 1930s
through to the 1960s but, like many small dairies, we
were gradually pushed out by larger dairy businesses.
However, we have now revived the tradition of doorstep
and wholesale delivery with our own organic milk and
cream, and other complementary produce through Acorn
Dairy. |

Lowfields |
|
|
Info: Our farm shop is set in its own grounds, is ultra-modern in its furnishings and equipment, and yet reassuringly traditional in its atmosphere. Even the roof beams are steeped in history, having
been rescued from the old High Level Bridge over the River Tyne at Newcastle. |

New Close Farm Shop |
|
|
Info: We supply fresh, organic and where possible local, fruit, vegetables, basic ingredients such as flours, pulses and cereals, as well as other goods. We are proud of our range
of organic fruit and
vegetables; we usually have up to fifty different types of fruit and veg. Our range is larger than any of the local supermarkets, and, because we buy locally wherever possible and don't maintain large
depots at the other end of the country, our prices are often cheaper too. |
