SinksWatch |
|
|
Info: Is an initiative of the World Rainforest
Movement, hosted by the WRM's Northern Support Office
and implemented by FERN. The aim of SinksWatch is to
track and scrutinize carbon sequestration projects
related to the Kyoto Protocol, and to highlight their
threats to forests and other ecosystems, to forest
peoples as well as to the climate.
The focus of SinksWatch
is on tree plantation sinks projects, particularly in
areas where land tenure and land use rights are in
dispute. That said, to understand fully the flaws of
carbon offset schemes involving tree planting they also
provide analysis showing why carbon offsets generally
are a dangerous distraction from the task at hand --
drastically and swiftly reducing fossil fuel emissions.
SinksWatch advocates
addressing the links between forests and climate change
in a way that honours forests as a safeguard against the
impacts of extreme weather events without justifying the
continued, additional and permanent release of carbon
from fossil fuel burning. |

Two Men Plant a Forest |
|
|

extreme physical challange as it takes something extreme
to gain people's attention. They feel the need to create
awareness with regard to global environmental concerns -
this affects all of us and more than that will greatly
affect our children. Thank you for your kind donation
and feel secure with the fact that this event is 100%
non-profit. Although this event is to plant one
watershed community project, the more we raise the more
reforestation will happen. If two ordinary guys can
plant a forest in a month, then together we can ... |
