The Barn Owl Trust |
|
|
Info: Is a small charity working very hard to
conserve one of the most beautiful birds on earth.
Anyone who has ever watched a Barn Owl hunting at dusk
has surely been touched by the experience but, sadly,
these magical birds have become increasingly rare - and
the reasons are all man-made. Lack of food due to
intensive farming, the loss of roost and nest sites,
road mortality, and a host of other factors are to
blame.
The Trust was founded by
a small group of volunteers who believed not only that
they could reverse this decline through practical
conservation work, but also that they could use people's
interest in the Barn Owl to increase environmental
awareness. Thus the Trust's two-pronged approach and
slogan 'Conserving the Barn Owl and its Environment' was
born. |

The British Land Reclamation Society |
|
|
Info: Is an interdisciplinary organisation -
and Registered Charity - concerned with the reclamation,
regeneration and restoration of land. This includes
contaminated, derelict and abandoned land from mineral
working and former urban and industrial uses.
As an organisation they
cover education, best practice and research over the
many subject areas involved in the science and
practicalities of land reclamation in England, Scotland
and Wales. This could be from ground work engineering
and geotechnics, to economic regeneration and
sustainable urban reclamation. It covers a wide range of
expertise and we encourage continuing development across
disciplines. |

The Fox Project |
|
|
Info: Is a charity dedicated to the red fox.
They operate in parts of Kent, Surrey, East Sussex and
South East London, dealing with sick and injured foxes
and abandoned fox cubs and working with a large team of
volunteers to provide for their care, treatment and
rehabilitation back into the wild.
Some householders do not
like foxes in their garden, so The Fox Project operates
a specialist fox deterrence and advice service, which is
both more effective and more humane than outmoded 'pest
control' |

The Swan Sanctuary |
|
|
Info: Is a charity dedicated to the care and
treatment of swans and waterfowl with an established
reputation, not only within the British Isles but
worldwide. The Swan Sanctuary is proud to have
facilities that include a fully equipped operating
theatre, an X-ray room, an intensive care ward, an
isolation ward, a washing room for oiled swans, several
nursing ponds and a 4-acre rehabilitation lake. In the
year 2000 we were instrumental in treating close on
4,000 mute swans, both at the sanctuary and in the field
across the whole of England, Wales, Scotland and both
Northern and Southern Ireland. |

Tree Aid |
|
|
Info: Is enabling communities in Africa's
drylands to fight poverty and become self-reliant, while
improving the environment. It is the UK's only forestry
focused development charity providing funding and
on-the-ground training and support to local
organisations in the Sahel of Africa. TREE AID's work,
which also strengthens villagers' resilience to the
impact of climate change, has never been more important. |

Trees for Life |
|
|
Info: Is the only organisation specifically
dedicated to restoring the Caledonian Forest to a target
area of 600 sq miles in the Scottish Highlands. They
work in partnership with the Forestry Commission, RSPB
and private landowners, and own and manage the 10,000
acre Dundreggan Estate. Each year they run over 45
Conservation Work Weeks. Hundreds of volunteers join
them annually in planting over 100,000 trees in
protected areas, and carry out other restoration work
such as seed collection and propagation of young trees
and rare woodland plants. They have planted over 750,000
trees since 1989. |

Two Men Plant a Forest |
|
|
Info: Simon and Richard are undertaking this
extreme physical challange as it takes something extreme
to gain people's attention. They feel the need to create
awareness with regard to global environmental concerns -
this affects all of us and more than that will greatly
affect our children. Thank you for your kind donation
and feel secure with the fact that this event is 100%
non-profit. Although this event is to plant one
watershed community project, the more we raise the more
reforestation will happen. If two ordinary guys can
plant a forest in a month, then together we can ... |

|
Info: A website for anyone interested in the
wildlife and countryside of Britain. |
|
Vale Wildlife Rescue |
|
|
Info: Each year in Britain an estimated five
million wild birds and other animals are injured or
disabled in some way. A vast majority of their injuries
are caused by people, mostly accidentally, such as road
accidents, but some are intentional like poisoning and
badger baiting. They at the Vale Wildlife Rescue offer
help to thousands of these casualties every year by
treating them and where possible release them back in to
the wild. They are on call 24 hours a day, every single
day of the year.
They are a registered
Charitable Trust that was set up in 1984. Their running
costs of almost £20,000 per month are ever increasing,
they are completely dependent upon donations and
voluntary assistance. |
