choice in seafood. |

Natural England |
|
|
Info: Is here to conserve and enhance the
natural environment, for its intrinsic value, the
wellbeing and enjoyment of people and the economic
prosperity that it brings.
It is working towards the
delivery of four strategic outcomes, which together
deliver on our purpose to conserve, enhance and manage
the natural environment for the benefit of current and
future generations: a healthy natural environment;
people are inspired to value and conserve the natural
environment; sustainable use of the natural environment;
a secure environmental future - decisions which
collectively secure the future of the natural
environment. |

People's Trust for Endangered Species |
|
|
Info: They are a conservation charity created
in 1977 to ensure a future for endangered species
throughout the world. They help all sorts of species,
but have a special focus on our native mammals. They
firmly believe that successful conservation is based on
sound scientific evidence and advice with practical
outcomes. They are optimistic, believing that with
positive, sustained cooperative action, we really can
make a difference. |

POWA |
|
|
Info: Protect Our Wild Animals (POWA) was
formed in 1998 by a group of two dozen former staff,
executive committee members, regional representatives
and hunt monitors of the League Against Cruel Sports.
The POWA founders were outraged at the Government's
failure to honour its pre-election pledge to provide
Parliamentary time for the abolition of hunting. POWA
has no paid staff or offices; thus administration costs
are kept to a bare minimum. |

Quoditch More Nature Reserve |
|
|
Info: It is a unique site and credit must be
given to the previous owners, Michael and Agnes Ogborne
of North Quoditch Farm, for managing the land in such a
sympathetic fashion for the last forty years. Their
understanding of the land has preserved it and its
wildlife whilst so much around Devon has disappeared.
Amongst the uncommon plants to be found here are the
Devil's Bit Scabious which is quite profuse, and the
Guelder Rose, of which there are several examples. Also
there is a variety of marsh and meadow orchids to be
found. Its plants also make it the home of a rare
butterfly, the Marsh Fritillary which can be seen in
profusion during the early summer. It is also home to
many other butterflies such as the Wood White, Marbled
White and the Silver Washed Fritillary. The site
consists of six enclosures. Each one is totally
surrounded by trees, thus giving shelter and protection
to the area. The area has not received any chemical
treatment for at least forty years (probably much
longer). |

Rainforest Concern |
|
|
Info: Is a Registered Charity in the UK,
established to protect threatened natural habitats and
the biodiversity they contain, together with the
indigenous people who still depend on them for survival.
The world's tropical rainforests are the richest and
most diverse habitats on earth. They represent a vast
reservoir of knowledge and contain a wealth of
ecosystems and wildlife, with many species still
undiscovered. |
|
RSPB |
|
|
Info: Their work is driven by a passionate
belief that we all have a responsibility to protect
birds and the environment. Bird populations reflect the
health of the planet on which our future depends. The
need for an effective bird conservation organisation has
never been greater. Climate change, agricultural
intensification, expansion of urban areas and transport
infrastructure, and over-exploitation of our seas all
pose major threats to birds. |

Save the Kangaroo |
|
|
Info: Australia exports approximately 3
million kangaroo skins, worth more than £12 million, to
Europe and the USA every year. The vast majority of
these skins are used to make football boots, some are
used for golf gloves, baseball mitts and other sports
goods. Products are often labelled “K leather” or “RKT”
(rubberised kangaroo technology) to disguise the fact
that they are made from the skins of butchered
kangaroos.
Each year, the Australian
government sets a quota for the number of kangaroos the
industry can kill. For 2003, the quota is 6.5million.
They use euphemisms such as ‘humanely harvesting’ a
‘renewable resource’ in an attempt to cloud the fact
that they are authorising the slaughter of their
country’s wildlife for profit.
'Every person can make a
massive difference to global conservation. Simply never
purchase wildlife - including kangaroo - products!'
(Steve Irwin, Australian wildlife expert and TV
presenter) |

SinksWatch |
|
|
Info: Is an initiative of the World Rainforest
Movement, hosted by the WRM's Northern Support Office
and implemented by FERN. The aim of SinksWatch is to
track and scrutinize carbon sequestration projects
related to the Kyoto Protocol, and to highlight their
threats to forests and other ecosystems, to forest
peoples as well as to the climate.
The focus of SinksWatch
is on tree plantation sinks projects, particularly in
areas where land tenure and land use rights are in
dispute. That said, to understand fully the flaws of
carbon offset schemes involving tree planting they also
provide analysis showing why carbon offsets generally
are a dangerous distraction from the task at hand --
drastically and swiftly reducing fossil fuel emissions.
SinksWatch advocates
addressing the links between forests and climate change
in a way that honours forests as a safeguard against the
impacts of extreme weather events without justifying the
continued, additional and permanent release of carbon
from fossil fuel burning. |

Stop Cameron |
|
|
Info: If the Conservatives win the next
general election, their leader David Cameron will repeal
the ban on hunting with dogs. Help stop him by
supporting anti hunting MPs in marginal seats and
exposing his barbaric agenda. Together we can stop
Cameron from re-legalising barbaric so called 'sports' |
|
Students Against Animal Cruelty |
|
|
Info: Is a new national organisation created
to support, stimulate and encourage students who want to
make a difference for animals. They aim to create a
network to link existing student groups and help to
create new ones, allowing students across the country to
share their ideas and experiences. They can also give
help and advice on various issues, from campaigning for
better provision of vegan food on campus to studying
without harmful animal use. |
