Flying Forest |
|
|
Info: Plants trees to help neutralise carbon
emissions created by flying. Whilst planting trees is
not the complete solution to global warming, it helps.
And the planet needs every assistance we can give it.
But there’s more to Flying Forest than just protecting
the planet. We have undertaken a planting programme
which benefits the environment but also the people,
habitat and wildlife of Southern Africa. At Flying
Forest, we believe that planting trees and maintaining
forests in Southern Africa helps in many ways. It allows
then to implement what they call the C3. Carbon,
Conservation, and Communities. |

Folly Wildlife Centre Project |
|
|
Info: Folly Wildlife Rescue started life in a
converted garden shed in 1987, but since then it has
grown beyond recognition, saved many, many thousands of
animals and birds, planted a seed of change in the
negative attitudes towards wildlife that still persist
and brought like-minded people together, directing their
energies to good work. And has demonstrated that even
with limited resources, you can, with the commitment and
determination of a good team, achieve real success.
In February 2005 Folly
Wildlife Rescue launched The Wildlife Centre Project, an
ambitious plan to establish a dedicated wildlife
hospital and education centre to serve Kent and Sussex. |

Global Trees Campaign |
|
|
Info: Over 8000 tree species, 10% of the
world's total, are threatened with extinction.
Destruction of woodland and forest and unsustainable
felling of valuable timbers are causing the loss of many
important species. Very few of these endangered trees
are being conserved in the wild. The Global Trees
Campaign, a joint initiative between Fauna & Flora
International (FFI), Botanic Gardens Conservation
International (BGCI) and the UNEP World Conservation
Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) in association with other
partners around the world, is drawing attention to this
global problem and finding solutions.
The Global Trees Campaign
aims to save the world's most threatened tree species
and their habitats through provision of information,
conservation action and support for sustainable use. The
campaign focuses on trees as flagship species for
conservation of ecosystems and landscapes, and enables
local people to carry out rescue and sustainable use
operations. They are working in partnership with
organizations around the world to save endangered trees. |

Greenpeace UK |
|
|
Info: Stands for positive change through
action. We defend the natural world and promote peace.
We investigate, expose and confront environmental abuse
by governments and corporations around the world. We champion environmentally responsible and socially
just solutions, including scientific and technical
innovation. Our goal is to ensure the ability of the
earth to nurture life in all its diversity.
We organise public
campaigns: for preventing climate change by ending our
addiction to polluting fuels and promoting clean,
renewable and efficient energy; for the protection of
oceans and ancient forests; for the elimination of toxic
chemicals; against the release of genetically modified
organisms into nature; for nuclear disarmament and an
end to nuclear contamination.
Greenpeace does not
solicit or accept funding from governments, corporations
or political parties. Greenpeace neither seeks nor
accepts donations which could compromise our
independence, aims, objectives or integrity. Greenpeace
relies on the voluntary donations of individual

International Animal Rescue |
|
|
Info: Its aim is to come to the aid of wild
and domestic animals with hands-on rescue and
rehabilitation. At International Animal Rescue they do
exactly what their name says. They save animals from
suffering around the world by: cutting free the dancing
bears of India; rescuing primates from the animal
smugglers of Indonesia; saving migratory birds from the
guns of Malta; providing veterinary care for the stray
dogs and cats of India. When they can, they release
rescued animals back into the wild. And when that’s not
possible, they care for them in their sanctuaries. |

John Muir Trust |
|
|
Info: Is one of the country’s leading
guardians of wild land and wildlife. As a prominent
membership organisation they carry out their charitable
role through the ownership of land, the promotion of
education and volunteer conservation activities.
Established in 1983 the
JMT owns and manages estates on Skye, Knoydart, Assynt,
Lochaber and Perthshire. The iconic peaks of Ben Nevis,
Schiehallion and many of the southern Cuillins of Skye
are protected by the Trust. In addition to their owned
properties, they work in partnership with many other
communities in the management of estates across
Scotland.
Although the Trust's
properties are located in Scotland, they are very much a
national and international body. The environmental John
Muir Award promotes awareness and responsibility for
wild places across the United Kingdom, while overseas
they have strong links with The Sierra Club in the
United States which, like the JMT, celebrates the work,
spirit and legacy of Dunbar born John Muir. |
