Flying Forest

Info:  Plants trees to help neutralise carbon emissions created by flying. Whilst planting trees is not the complete solution to global warming, it helps. And the planet needs every assistance we can give it. But there’s more to Flying Forest than just protecting the planet. We have undertaken a planting programme which benefits the environment but also the people, habitat and wildlife of Southern Africa. At Flying Forest, we believe that planting trees and maintaining forests in Southern Africa helps in many ways. It allows then to implement what they call the C3. Carbon, Conservation, and Communities.

imeasure

Homepage   Deep Links:  About   FAQs

Info:  Was developed for 2 reasons by researchers at the Environmental Change Institute:

We wanted to create a tool that gives people the control to easily monitor their real energy use and carbon emissions so they can identify energy saving that works for them.

To build a data set that can be used by energy researchers studying the patterns in UK household energy use. There is very limited data publicly available on household energy use. The imeasure data will help researchers investigating how the UK can reduce carbon emissions by 80% thereby moving to a low carbon future. All data contributed to imeasure is anonymised and aggregated for energy research.

London Climate Change Agency

Info:  Was established as the primary delivery vehicle for reducing London's carbon dioxide emissions. The objective of the LCCA is to deliver projects that reduce greenhouse gas – mainly carbon dioxide -- emissions from London in the sectors of energy, waste, water and transport. The LCCA plays a key role in delivering the Mayor's Climate Change Action Plan and the Mayor's Energy Strategy.

pure

Info:  Is a UK based registered charity with the specific objective of improving air quality, so combating climate change. It was conceived by a group of like-minded individuals, who recognised the need for cost-effective voluntary solutions to the carbon problem which extend the success of emissions trading beyond mandatory schemes.

SEA

Info:  Promotes education and action to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and communities. SEA are currently spearheading Old Home SuperHome -- an ongoing programme to transform the existing housing stock in the UK, with the ultimate aim of reducing domestic carbon emissions by 60%. The scheme is building and promoting a network of exemplar, energy-efficient old dwellings, which will be local and publicly accessible.

SEPA

Info:  The Scottish Environment Protection Agency is Scotland's environmental regulator. Our main role is to protect and improve the environment. We do this by regulating activities that can cause pollution and by monitoring the quality of Scotland's air, land and water. We are also responsible for delivering Scotland's flood warning system.

SinksWatch

Info:  Is an initiative of the World Rainforest Movement, hosted by the WRM's Northern Support Office and implemented by FERN. The aim of SinksWatch is to track and scrutinize carbon sequestration projects related to the Kyoto Protocol, and to highlight their threats to forests and other ecosystems, to forest peoples as well as to the climate.

The focus of SinksWatch is on tree plantation sinks projects, particularly in areas where land tenure and land use rights are in dispute. That said, to understand fully the flaws of carbon offset schemes involving tree planting they also provide analysis showing why carbon offsets generally are a dangerous distraction from the task at hand -- drastically and swiftly reducing fossil fuel emissions.

SinksWatch advocates addressing the links between forests and climate change in a way that honours forests as a safeguard against the impacts of extreme weather events without justifying the continued, additional and permanent release of carbon from fossil fuel burning.
