Info: Is a non-profit animal welfare
campaigning organisation. Their aims are to promote the
prevention of cruelty to animals and to conduct and
support the publication of information concerning
animals in furtherance of their welfare. They work
strictly within the democratic system and condemn all
illegal activity, and believe that an evolutionary
approach is better than a revolutionary one.
Their main campaigns are
on animal experiments (in particular those which cause
brain damage to primates), badger baiting, and live
transport across Europe. Their charitable wing, the
Naturewatch Foundation, is involved in pioneering work
in Eastern Europe, particularly in Lithuania and

the cruelty is to stop eating animals now – go
vegetarian, or better still, vegan. Through popular
campaigns, solid research, undercover exposés and
effective media skills they have brought the reality of
modern farming into people's living rooms. They have
enlightened millions, shocked most and changed the diets
of many. You can help with these successes. |

World Animal Day - October 4th |
|
|
Info: Was started in 1931 at a convention of
ecologists in Florence as a way of highlighting the
plight of endangered species. Since then it has grown to
encompass all kinds of animal life and is widely
celebrated in countries throughout the world. October 4
was chosen as World Animal Day as it is the Feast Day of
St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
It is intended as a day
of celebration for anyone in the world who cares about
animals. It is not restricted to any one nationality,
creed, religion, political belief or ideology. Launched
in the UK on 4 October 2003, organisations, groups,
animal shelters, places of worship, schools, clubs and
individuals who participated in what was to become an
annual event, quite simply, helped make history. |

WSPA |
|
|
Info: Its vision is of a world where animal
welfare matters, and animal cruelty ends. World Society
for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) has been promoting
animal welfare for more than 25 years. Their work is
concentrated in regions of the world where few, if any,
measures exist to protect animals.
WSPA’s work is focused on
four priority animal welfare areas: companion animals –
responsible pet ownership, humane stray management and
cruelty prevention; commercial exploitation of wildlife
– intensive farming and the cruel management and killing
of wild animals for food or by-products; farm animals –
intensive farming, long distance transport and slaughter
of animals for food; disaster management – providing
care to animals suffering as a result of man-made or
natural disasters, and thereby protecting people’s
livelihoods. |
