Edinburgh
Printmakers |
|
|
Info: Established in 1967 as the first open
access studio in Britain, Edinburgh Printmakers (EP) is
dedicated to the promotion of contemporary printmaking
practice.
As a not for profit
organisation that is also a registered charity, EP
receives approximately 50% of its funding through
revenue and project funding from the Scottish Arts
Council, as well as support from the City of Edinburgh
Council. This enables the organisation to highly
subsidise the cost of using the print studio, making
access to creative facilities affordable to a wide range
of people. This includes professional artists, students,
community groups and members of the public, who wish to
develop new or existing skills.
Our motivation in
continuing research of print processes is to create
flexible processes, offering artists the most versatile
range of high quality results. We also avoid using
highly toxic or harmful chemicals and solvents where a
safer alternative may be found. |

|
Info: Fresh, innovative and contemporary
graphic design, with a strong environmental conscience.
From the initial design right through to the printed end
product, Graphic Green seeks to work in a way that
minimizes the impact on the environment. Energy used by
the business comes directly from the on site
photovoltaic panels and two wind turbines, any short
fall is met by the grid on a green tariff. Business
travel is kept to a minimum, with the majority of work
with clients being carried out electronically or by
phone. We have links with printers who are
environmentally aware, promoting the use of the latest
recycled non bleached paper together with vegetable dye
inks. |

offers a chance to exhibit and sell your work on
invitation, and will introduce you to others of like
mind who are setting up a community to share ideas about
new printmaking techniques.
The Photopolymer and Acrylic Resist etching techniques
taught at Green Door are based on the pioneering work of
Alfons Bytautas RSA DA (Edin.) at the Edinburgh
Printmakers Workshop while our studio-based Waterless
Lithography process is that developed by Professor Nik
Semenoff in Canada. Green Door continues to draw upon
new printmaking developments worldwide in order to make
