The Art House |
|
|
Info: We are a cultural melting pot for arts
in Southampton. Located in Southampton's 'cultural
quarter' in Above Bar Street, we are a welcoming,
vibrant and charmingly quirky venue, volunteer run for
love ... and not for profit. In line with the aims of
the Art House, our shop sells crafts that are made by
local independent designers, who often use recycled and
sustainable materials. We believe in promoting
'upcycling' -- that goods that would be otherwise
disposed of can be reused to make an item that is
creative, vibrant, and better than the original. We sell
a range of items, from cards and calendars to jewellery
and stuffed creatures, even slippers and bowls. We aim
to have our crafts blur the line between art and craft —
handmade items that have strong style and design and an
interesting concept.
We are also an art
gallery, music venue and vegetarian and vegan restaurant
and cafe, open 6 days a week, Tuesday to Sunday. |

The Little
Glass Kiln |
|
|
Info: Home of the recycled flat bottle clock.
Based in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, The Little Glass
Kiln produces and sells handcrafted bottle clocks,
cheeseboards, dishes and art, all made from locally
sourced, recycled flattened bottles.
The Little Glass Kiln
Bottle Clocks all start life as empty used bottles
collected locally. We produce bottle clocks for pubs and
restaurants and promotional gifts for businesses, as
well as selling to the general public. Current stockists
include the Theakston Brewery and the Moors Centre
(North Yorkshire Moors National Park visitor centre).
Our aim is to give each bottle a new lease of life as a
novel and useful collectors item. They would make a
perfect Christmas or birthday gift, or why not buy one
of the Champagne bottle clocks as a unique wedding or
anniversary present? |

Thinking
Flowers |
|
|
Info: As consumers we are not going to stop
buying flowers; however, this is because many people are
unaware of the ills of the cut flower industry. We
want everybody to be able to know there is an
alternative. Floral installation is like modern Ikebana
sculpture, it sympathies with its use of space, its
minimal use of resources and simplicity and clarity of
line and form. The combination of three dimensional
design, scent and sensual colour combinations creates an
immense impact and captures the imagination.
The cut flower industry has huge social and
environmental impacts, routinely flying flowers half way
round the world from farms where workers are exploited
and subjected to high doses of agri-chemicals. Thinking
Flowers intends to provide a socially and
environmentally responsible, professional and friendly
service to its customers. |

Thistle & Broom |
|
|
Info: You will find extraordinary products all
made exclusively within Scotland’s borders. Each item
has been chosen to bring you, or your loved ones as
special gifts, years of pleasure. They are beautiful,
functional, timeless, (mostly) handcrafted treasures,
often unique to the cultural heritage of Scotland,
always of exceptional quality and many of which will be
made especially for you -- patience has its own rewards.
90% of our offerings are priced on the fair trade model
so that two thirds of the retail price goes directly to
the artisan.
Creating an environment
of regeneration, of giving back to sustain what we value
most, promoting the culture of a people that has given
so much to the world at large and preserving the
traditional manner of doing things ‘just because’ is an
honour for us. To that end, 8% of our pre-tax profits
from every product sold through Thistle & Broom will
endow carefully selected charitable organisations which
serve to preserve, protect or restore an element of
Scotland's heritage. |

person you see wearing one is responsible for a tree.
They are a permanent reminder to you (and everyone
around you) that, even if you may not be able to gaze
upon it daily, your tree is out there. |

Wildcard
Creative |
|
|
Info: Display stuff and save the planet! The
Wildcard system is modular in design and can be
configured to suit all stand types and sizes. With
Wildcard you have a fully configurable, versatile and
creative solution that is 100% recyclable, cost
effective and delivers against your exhibition
expectations. It'll even make the tea!
It also makes economic
sense to seek a substantial return on investment from
all your marketing activity. This is why we have
designed a product that doesn't necessarily scream
'green'. The white top sheet provides a perfect
substrate to print crisp and clear graphics and
marketing statements and have taken care to have as
little raw edges as possible. We think our product is
not only an environmentally responsible alternative for
exhibitors but also an alternative, which delivers
fantastic value for money. |

Woodland
Treasures |
|
|
Info: Is a range of high quality wooden
jewellery and combs lovingly hand carved in the
Highlands of Scotland by me, Geoff King. I have been
designing and making hand carved wooden jewellery since
November 2003, using mostly salvaged or recycled British
hardwoods.
My work continually
evolves, so the collection includes over one hundred
designs of earrings, brooches, kilt pins, necklaces,
combs bangles (bracelets) and pendants. All work is fret
sawn to shape, and then individually carved by hand
using super sharp knives and needle files. Finally, each
piece is brought to a fine finish and treated with
natural, solvent-free plant oils to protect the surface
and enhance the grain and colour. |
