Info: Makes a variety of nomadic tents to the
highest standards. Each yurt frame is hand built using
selected hardwoods from the local community forest. Each
proofed cotton cover is tailored to fit its frame
exactly. We make yurts in a variety of styles and
sizes, all of which have been tried and tested over many
years.
The proprietor, Paul King
has been making yurts since 1991, has studied yurt
making in Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan and is the author of
three books on the subject. If you prefer to build your
own yurt, this site will tell you how. If you are
studying yurts, this site will give a wealth of
information.
Woodland yurts have been
used as classrooms, sacred spaces, saunas, permanent
homes, student accommodation, spare rooms, children's
playhouses, workshops, meditation spaces, classrooms,
theatres, shops, cinemas, offices, birthing spaces and
for family camping.
Yurts have been home to
millions of people throughout Central Asia for thousands
of years. The proven design is equally well suited for
use in this country. The yurt can be insulated for
winter use. The sides roll up to admit a cooling breeze
on hot days. On clear nights one can lie in bed and
watch the stars through the open crown. On wet nights
there is plenty of room for friends to sit in comfort
around a warm stove, tell stories and listen to the
storm outside. The atmosphere inside is one of warm,
secure solidity, while from outside the yurt radiates a
welcoming glow. |
