Dorset Rural Skills |
|
|
Info: Dorset Centre for Rural Skills (DCRS) is
an established, not for profit, training centre based in
the north Dorset between Blandford and Shaftesbury. It
runs specialist courses in traditional renovation of
buildings and the use of cob, lime and timber. DCRS has
pioneered modern bale building techniques and runs
courses in straw bale building and understanding
renewable energy. Courses in rural skills include
blacksmithing, hurdle making and glassblowing.
Co-located with the
Dorset Centre for Rural Skills, the Sustainable Building
Resource Centre provides a one-stop shop for advice,
information and products. It is based in a straw bale
house at DCRS and showcases low impact, energy efficient
building practice. Lime products are always in stock and
larger quantities can be ordered by the tonne and half
tonne and delivered to site. Other sustainable and
natural building materials can be purchased through the
website and delivered direct to your home or to site. We also give general advice about sustainable
building, from constructing your home to powering it. |

EnviroVent |
|
|
Info: Is Britain’s leading manufacturer of low
energy, sustainable domestic ventilation equipment. With
over 20 years experience, we design, manufacture,
supply and install the world’s most innovative
ventilation solutions, whilst ensuring minimum impact on
the environment. As the company evolved, its mission to
produce energy-efficient, innovative and recyclable
products boosted its reputation as a ‘champion’ of good
air quality. A strategic plan to reduce the UK’s carbon
footprint has resulted in an increasing product
portfolio, backed up by a dedicated programme to educate
target markets on the benefits of specifying domestic
ventilation products with long life-spans.
Heightened concerns about
landfill space, which is due to run out in less than ten
years, prompted EnviroVent to draw on the breadth and
depth of its growing team’s expertise in design,
manufacture, sales, maintenance and exchange. This has
revolutionised extractor fan technology and now every 6
minutes an EnviroVent ventilation product is installed
across the UK to improve indoor air quality and promote
healthy living environments, free from streaming
windows, condensation and mould problems. |

|
Info: Is a blend of lime (binder) and recycled
glass (aggregate), to make plasters, renders and mortars
which are suitable for old buildings, ecological new
builds or for those wanting to add a surface finish with
a difference.
Why Lime? Because it has
been successfully used in building for over 4000 years;
helps to control condensation and damp, thus creating a
healthier building; enables other susutainable building
materials to be used such as wood, straw, woodfibre
boards, clay and earth; can be recycled at the end of
its useful life and will allow other building components
to potentially be reclaimed and reused; is less damaging
to the environment compared to its modern counterparts. |
