Andy Wood |
|
|
Info: Designing furniture using reclaimed wood
that has been In architectual structures brings a
different element to my work. The wood has usually been
weatherd for many years by the sea, rivers or elements.
Depending on what kind of environment the wood has been
exposed to, it will give the wood its own individual
characteristics. I then turn this salvaged wood into
fine unique pieces of functional art. |

|
Info: Passionate about sustainable development and
eco-design, I have focussed on how people perceive and
interact with their environments and the objects within
those environments. My goal is to take all I have learned and design products and
environments that people want and need, and that make
optimum use of our planet’s resources. |

Audrey Hayes -
Artist / Designer |
|
|
Info: Is a Manchester-based artist and
designer who makes wooden sculpture, vessels, furniture
and wall pieces. Her unique designs range in scale from
large outdoor sculptural furniture to table-top vessels,
made predominantly from discarded wood. Inspired by the
organic qualities of the material, as well as by the
challenge of preserving its simplicity, Audrey strives
to capture a presence in her work that invites the
viewer to touch, question and caress each piece.
Many of the designs, from solid oak garden benches to
delicate wall pieces, are finished with a signature
scorching technique. This gives the work not only a
curious unnatural flavour but also a bold and
distinctive aesthetic. Audrey is able to maintain the
wonderful organic qualities of the material whilst
offering a contemporary and minimalist form. |

ClareWilks
Sculpture |
|
|
Info: I work in gardens, parks and galleries
creating sculptural objects, living structures and
temporary installations. Specialising in willow, wire,
steel rods and leather, I use weaving and binding
evolved from traditional techniques. The forms are
inspired by abstract organic shapes in nature but often
the materials and weaving techniques also determine the
shape of a piece. My work is about enhancing the
environment and exchanging views with others.
My large-scale work can be viewed from inside and out,
exploring the links between organic sculpture and
architecture. Such forms include shelters, arbours,
arches, tunnels and screens. Many are made with living
willow using a variety of coloured stems. These sprout
catkins and fresh shoots in the spring, becoming green
and leafy in the summer. As they grow and develop over
the years, new shoots are either woven in or pruned. I
continue to work with nature this way as I constantly
learn how it will change my pieces.
The smaller objects are also organic forms which are
more often designed to be attached to an existing
structure, like a wall or a tree. Made with
predominantly natural materials and woven into shapes
like a nest, cocoon or cone, these suggest functional
forms made by or for other creatures. |

Frailloop -
Metal Sculpture |
|
|
Info: Recycling scrap metal with imagination
and a MIG welder, Gavin Darby of Frailloop creates metal
sculpture designed mainly for the garden and other
outside locations. Garden gates, business signs, office
focal points and of course the unique garden animals and
flowers have all come out of the Nottinghamshire based
Frailloop workshop.
Frailloop is my
description of the world in which we all live. If you
take more out than you put back, you break the loop, and
it will all come crashing down. We should all try to
recycle and reuse as much as possible. This is part of
my effort. I cannot claim to be perfect, but I hope to
do my bit. If I can make a difference for the good, I’ll
feel better about myself. |
