Association of Environment Conscious Building |
|
|
Info: The objective and aims of the AECB are
to facilitate environmentally responsible practices
within building: promoting the use of products and
materials which are safe, healthy and sustainable;
encouraging members' projects that respect, protect and
enhance the environment; making available comprehensive
information and guidance about products, methods and
projects; supporting the interests and endeavours of
members in achieving these aims. |

Devon Earth Building Association |
|
|
Info: Was formed in 1991 to sustain the
ancient and traditional practice of building in earth or
‘cob’ in the South-West of England. The Association
supports the conservation of existing cob buildings, by
developing and promoting appropriate techniques for
their repair and maintenance, and encourages the use of
cob for new building. |
|
Energy Saving Trust |
|
|
Info: We work with building professionals
involved in designing, specifying, planning or
installing to help promote the sustainable use of energy
in homes. We set energy efficiency standards for the
housing industry that go beyond current building
regulations. Covering good, best and advanced practice,
we provide an integrated package of measures for all
aspects of new build and refurbishment. |
|
Permaculture The Earth |
|
|
Info: Scientific research has demonstrated
that ecological stability is achieved through biological
diversity, and no single organism is responsible for
that stability. Permaculture research reveals that this
stability is achieved only through a complex network of
connections ... 'functional connections' between
elements in the total system. The more functional
connections a system has, the more sustainable it
becomes. |
|
Scottish Ecological Design Association |
|
|
Info: Was set up in 1991 'to promote the
design of communities, environments, projects, systems,
services, materials and products which enhance the
quality of life of, and are not harmful to, living
species and planetary ecology'. They see ecological
design as a discipline which is still in its infancy.
They believe that a mature respect for Nature should
become an intrinsic part of the choices we make, and can
enhance good design, and need not preclude the use of
sophisticated technology. |
|
Sponge |
|
|
Info: Is a network of open-minded individuals
who share a particular interest in sustainable
development. These individuals generally work in, or are
associated with the development of our built
environment; from bricks and mortar through design,
engineering and planning to communities and
regeneration. Sponge provides a focus for fresh ideas in
building; demonstrating how sustainable development can
improve the quality of our built and natural
environment. |
|
SUST |
|
|
Info: Scotland’s dedicated web site to
sustainable design in architecture and the built
environment. |
|
The Carpenter's Fellowship |
|
|
Info: Promoting communication, training and
sharing of knowledge amongst those interested in
historic and contemporary timber framed structures. |
|
The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings |
|
|
Info: Was founded by William Morris in 1877 to
counteract the highly destructive 'restoration' of
medieval buildings being practised by many Victorian
architects. Today it is the largest, oldest and most
technically expert national pressure group fighting to
save old buildings from decay, demolition and damage.
We advise. We educate. We
campaign. We offer help when it's wanted and informed
resistance when we are alarmed. We encourage excellence
in new design to enrich and complement the historic
environment. We represent the practical and positive
side of conservation. We have a firm set of principles
about how old buildings should be repaired and the
practical knowledge to show how these can be put into
effect. We are training the next generation to do the
job with discernment and care and we are helping many others, who own or live in old
buildings, to understand them better. |
