quantity of timber waste is used for heat and power.
Wood shavings are extracted, filtered, stored and then

runs through site management. Where possible, a quantity

Bamboo flooring is one of
the hardest natural materials available for flooring and
is an excellent alternative to hard wood flooring.
Bamboo has a higher fibre rating than any hard wood,
which gives it exceptional hard wearing qualities. This
natural bamboo flooring solution is available in six
different styles, which will compliment any interior
design. From ultra contemporary chic through to a more
traditional classic style, natural bamboo flooring will
give you a truly unique look. Because bamboo is a rapid
growing grass and not wood, it can be harvested every
3-5 years, unlike 15-25 years for most wood. This makes
bamboo a very environmentally friendly product for
flooring. |

The Green-Wood Company |
|
|
Info: Based in the South East of England, it
specialises in Laminated Sweet Chestnut and finger
jointed products, and in particular laminated sweet
chestnut windows and doors. We are working with a
number of our suppliers to ensure that the materials we use are obtained from sustainable and managed
sources.
One such area is the use
of locally grown Sweet Chestnut. Since Roman times, the
Sweet Chestnut has been grown in large volumes in
Southern England using the coppice method. There are
currently around 18,000 ha of sweet chestnut woods in
Southern England, which until recently had been used
mainly for fencing and hop poles. These markets have
declined in recent years but with the technological
advances in adhesives and machinery, it is now possible
to use this species, dried, laminated and finger jointed
to larger sections for joinery production providing
attractive, durable and highly sustainable products, such
as the orangery featured on this page. Only a small
proportion of the annual increment growth is taken from
the woods and with coppicing, the tree regrows from the
same rootstock and is not 'killed', thus maintaining a
highly sustainable historic silvicultural system. |

TongLing Bamboo Flooring |
|
|
Info: Is a high quality hardwood floor
combining beauty with exceptional hard-wearing
characteristics, suitable with underfloor heating. Its
natural appearance and soft colour add a unique ambience
by giving warmth in winter and coolness in summer,
bringing elegance to hallways, kitchens, bathrooms and
lounges.
Bamboo is probably the
most environmentally sensible flooring available,
offering a dependable alternative to hardwood. Bamboo is
technically a grass and it can be harvested in about
five years. Recognized as the fastest-growing plant on
earth, bamboo offers 25 times the yield of hardwood and
is much more sustainable and renewable. It can be
harvested and replenished with virtually no impact to
the environment. Harvesting does not kill the plant,
because it constantly regenerates itself by sending out
runners that result in new canes. Bamboo can be grown in
soil damaged by overgrazing and poor agricultural
techniques, and topsoil is not damaged when the cane is
harvested. Not only does the topsoil stay in place, but
the plant’s dense leaf cover actually improves the soil
over time. |
